High Definition - The difference between 'HD Ready' and 'Full HD'

High Definition or 'HD' is now a reality for most consumers. However, the technical jargon behind this can be very confusing. 720p, 1080i & 1080p are all different modes of High Definition display, but not all are .true. high definition.

The new .Full High Definition. format 1080p will allow Blu-Ray Disc movies to be played back in there true resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. That.s 5 times the quality of standard TV. This Sony Bravia KDL-40W5500 is one of the latest Full HD 1080p TV.s available and will provide a superior High Definition picture when paired with the Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray disc player.

An .HD ready. TV is made up of 1366x768 pixels commonly known as 720p or 1080i. TV.s in this format will not be able to play back a Blu-Ray disc movie in true High Definition, instead the movie has to be .downscaled. or lowered in visual quality to fit onto the available pixels on the screen. This will still offer a better picture than standard definition TV.s, so for all of you out there looking to get into the High Definition Blu-Ray scene you don.t have to rush out and buy a new TV just yet. In the next 5 years or so you.ll have 3D TV.s and QuadHD to look forward to.
